Canada Express Entry Changes - What to Check Before November 3, 2026
Canada Express Entry changes announced on 16 October 2026 are due to take effect on 3 November 2026. They concern points linked to eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers, including the treatment of high-wage occupations.
The announcement date and start date are different. At our 31 October review, the November changes are still upcoming. This article explains what candidates should verify before relying on an old CRS estimate or an incomplete profile.
What did IRCC announce?
IRCC’s 16 October news release describes additional points for eligible Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation. It also removes the LMIA requirement for a qualifying Express Entry job offer under the new settings, while retaining assessment of whether offers are genuine.
The release asks candidates seeking job-offer points to update their profiles before 3 November. Existing CRS scores will be recalculated, which may take up to two weeks, with invitation rounds paused during the recalculation. Do not interpret that temporary process as an individual refusal.
High-wage occupation does not mean your salary alone
The official high-wage occupation page uses the occupation’s Canadian median wage and National Occupational Classification code. It is not determined simply by one applicant’s personal salary.
The published framework uses wage levels beginning at 1.3 times the overall workforce median. Applicants should check the exact NOC and list rather than assuming that a familiar job title automatically qualifies. A role description matters more than selecting the most attractive label.
Job-offer checks are still necessary
IRCC’s Express Entry job-offer guidance distinguishes the forthcoming assessment rules from existing program conditions. Removing an LMIA requirement for this purpose does not make every offer valid or remove every program’s eligibility requirements.
A work permit is not, by itself, a job offer. Keep the written offer and accurate employer, duties, hours, and occupation information together. Follow current IRCC instructions for profile fields, especially where the online form has not yet caught up with a rule change.
Review your profile in an organized way
- Check the program: confirm the Express Entry route for which you are eligible.
- Review employment: compare dates, duties, and occupation codes with your supporting evidence.
- Check any offer: review the employer details and the conditions required by the program.
- Read the new occupation list: do not infer eligibility from salary or job title alone.
- Follow official update instructions: use the IRCC account and guidance for the fields concerned.
- Keep a record: retain the information submitted and the confirmation of changes.
Our practical suggestion is to compare the profile against documents before editing. A rushed correction that creates inconsistent employment dates can cause another problem.
Express Entry is different from a temporary work permit
The Express Entry overview describes a permanent-residence application management system. It should not be confused with permission to start work in Canada.
Our Canada work permit guide covers temporary work routes. An Express Entry profile, a potential increase in points, or a job offer does not automatically authorize employment. Avoid anyone selling a guaranteed invitation or promising points without examining the actual criteria.
